Our Co-Op
Planned for the Tantramar region of New Brunswick…
Freshwinds is a non-profit, member-led housing co-operative for people who value long-term housing security, ecological responsibility, and shared governance.
This is not a traditional rental development. It is not assisted living. And it is not driven by real estate market fears.
It is a community being built thoughtfully, by and for its future members.
Could you imagine yourself living in a place like that?
If so, then we should talk.
The Perks
Expect no wild rent increases, no reno-victions.
Your housing costs stay stable and predictable, so you can breathe easy.
Everyone pitches in.
Responsibilities here are shared, so no one carries the weight alone.
Your village is here.
Enjoy a built-in community of neighbours who share your values and want to see Freshwinds thrive.
Your voice matters.
Freshwinds is a co-operative. Members shape the decisions that affect their home and community.
Eco-friendly, through and through.
The way we build and live together is designed with the planet in mind (and it makes life here more cost-effective, too!)
Close to what counts.
Shopping, schools, healthcare, natural wonders, quaint cafés and delightful restaurants – it’s all here or very close by.
Our spaces bring people together.
Enjoy gardens, shared amenities, and places to gather just outside your door.

What is
co-op
housing?

How we keep costs stable
-
As a non-profit, your occupancy costs cover only what it actually costs to run Freshwinds. No profit margins for landlords, no hikes due to real estate market fluctuations.
-
Bulk purchasing keeps operating expenses lower, and those savings flow directly to members.
-
Your Board of Directors is made up of your neighbours — people who live here and have a direct stake in keeping Freshwinds financially stable and fairly run.
-
Freshwinds is a new construction, meaning the latest building methodology and quality, energy-efficient materials will be used to ensure these buildings stand the test of time, and maintenance costs are predictable for years to come.
-
Energy efficiency is a priority, meaning utility costs are lower from day one and ensure costs are stable over time.
Tread softly, live respectfully
Freshwinds respectfully recognizes and acknowledges that Freshwinds is located on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi'kmaq People. We recognize that this territory is covered by the Treaties of Peace and Friendship, which were first signed with the British Crown in the 1720s. We respect the Indigenous knowledge keepers and ancestors, and we affirm that we are all treaty people.

Is Freshwinds the right fit for you?
We get it. Co-operative housing is not for everyone, but it may be right for you, if:
-
You are comfortable paying a monthly housing charge as part of your membership.
-
You enjoy knowing your neighbours and working together, even when it might take a little patience and compromise.
-
You are willing to pitch in on the occasional meeting, and possibly take on a leadership role down the road.
-
You are open to learning how the co-op runs, so you can play an active and informed part in it.
-
You respect shared rules and a lifestyle that takes others into account, and want to help make them better over time – for every one's benefit.
-
The values of co-operative living such as fairness, community, and sustainability feel like a natural fit for you.
-
You are ready to sign an occupancy agreement and commit to paying your housing charges on time each month.
-
You are okay with shared decision-making around common spaces, knowing that changes to your surroundings are made together, not individually.
